Daniel Münich is Altria Professor of Economics at CERGE-EI, a joint workplace of Charles University (Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education, CERGE) and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (Economics Institute, EI) in Prague. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Charles University and was a visiting scholar at the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan Business School. Münich is a member of the executive board of the Czech Economic Society and of the Sociological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Chief Editor of Svobodne rozhledy. Münich has advised several Czech ministries and conducted reports for several national and international organisations, including the European Commission (see above and Appendix A.6.) and the World Bank. Münich has written numerous papers and published his articles in several journals such as the Journal of Comparative Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics or Labour Economics. Moreover he has written policy studies and scientific reports on the economics of education, as well as regularly writing articles in Czech daily newspapers and the popular press. The topics his work covers include returns to education in transition, literacy, unemployment dynamics and education reform, particularly the impact of vouchers and school competition on outcomes.
With his affiliation to CERGE-EI Münich is integrated in a high-level research group including other important economists dealing with similar topics like Randall K. Filer, Professor of Economics at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and Visiting Professor of Economics and Senior Scholar at CERGE-EI in Prague, and Štepán Jurajda. For the network, Münich will cover the Central and Eastern European countries with a special focus on the Czech Republic.
