Francis Kramarz is Director of CREST-INSEE (Centre de Recherche en Économie et Statistique and Institut National de la Statistique et des Études Économiques), the research branch of the French Statistical Institute in Paris, France. He is also Professor at Ecole Polytechnique. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Université Paris-X Nanterre. Kramarz is a research fellow of CEPR (Center of Economic Policy Research), IFAU (Uppsala) and IZA. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association, Labour Economics, the Journal of Population Economics and Research in Economics (Ricerche Economiche), and he has been Chief Editor of Annales d'Economie et Statistique. He has given keynote addresses to several conferences, sat on the Scientific Committees of several annual meetings of the European Economic Association, the European Meeting of the Econometric Society and the World Meeting of the Econometric Society, is organizer of the Malinvaud seminar in Econometrics and Applied Economics and has organized major international conferences on the microeconometrics of human-resource management and on innovation (cf. Hall and Kramarz 1998). In addition to working on topics of the economics of education, Kramarz’s main research interests include labour economics, microeconometrics and matched employer-employee datasets. His major contributions have been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Political Economy, Econometrica, the European Economic Review, the Review of Economics and Statistics and many others. With respect to the economics of education, his work has dealt with employment policies for low-skilled youths, on-the-job training and firm- and person-specific remuneration patterns.
At his institution, Kramarz’s work for the network can benefit form other researchers in the economics of education like Edwin Leuven, who is affiliated to CREST-INSEE and Professor at ENSAE (Ècole National de la Statistique et de l`Administration Economique Paris), previously working at the Research Institute ‘Scholar’ in Amsterdam and at the Directorate for Education, Labour and Social Affairs of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Corinne Prost, Head of the Labor Statistics Unit of INSEE. In terms of geographical coverage for the network, Kramarz will be responsible for France.
