Angel de la Fuente is Associate Research Professor and Vice Director of the Instituto de Análisis Económico (IAE-CSIC), Campus Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain. He is also an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Economics at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. De la Fuente received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is editor of Revista Economía Applicada, member of the editorial boards of several economics journals and a CEPR Research Affiliate. De la Fuente is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and of the Board of the Spanish Economic Association and has acted on the Programme Committee of the Annual Congress of the European Economic Association and the Econometric Society European Meeting. De la Fuente has recently written two major studies on human capital and economic growth in a global and knowledge-based economy commissioned by the Directorate-General for Employment and Social Affairs. Before, he has also written technical reports on integration and on restructuring government expenditure for the European Commission, as well as further reports for national and regional governments.
De la Fuente’s research in the economics of education focuses mainly on the effects of human capital on economic growth at the macroeconomic level, at estimating rates of return to education for different European countries and at educational infrastructure as an instrument of regional policy in Europe. His papers have been published by the American Economic Review, the European Economic Review and Economic Policy, among others. In geographical terms, de la Fuente will cover Spain and Portugal for the network.
