The World Bank has been one of the leading international players in the economics of education in recent decades. Harry Patrinos is Senior Education Economist in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region of the World Bank. Having received degrees in economics from the Universities of Ottawa, Carleton and Sussex, Patrinos has co-managed the World Bank’s report on lifelong learning, led the Task Force on Bridging the Digital Divide through Education, set up the Economics of Education Thematic Group and recently completed the World Bank’s first report on education for the knowledge economy. Patrinos has published widely in the economics of education, with special emphasis on lifelong learning, education for the knowledge economy, returns to education and demand-side financing. His papers have been published by the Economics of Education Review, Education Economics and the European Journal of Education, among others. Patrinos (2003) is one of the joint editors of the Special Issue of the Economics of Education Review in honour of George Psacharopoulos, published in October 2003. Patrinos can provide insightful knowledge and expertise from both the work of an international organisation but also from country-specific studies with a special focus on Latin America and the Caribbean Region.
