Mikolaj Herbst is our new external advisor from Poland. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw. Currently he is working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Warsaw and he is member of the Strategic Advisors Team to the Prime Minister of Poland. Herbst is an outstanding expert of the Polish education system and several other Eastern European countries. He has experience from working in several important projects such as PHARE and he was a principal researcher in a project financed by the Polish Scientific Comitte on “Human capital formation. Educational quality as measured by school tests”. Moreover, Herbst was involved as a consultant in many other projects dealing with human capital and/or economics of education issues in countries like the Ukraine (2004-2005), Montenegro (2006-2007) and Bulgaria (2007-2008). His own research activities are also mainly focussed on evaluating education policies in Poland and other transition economies. Herbst will serve as our main expert for the Polish education system. Moreover, his expertise from many other transition economies reveals him as a handyman for several other issues coming up in this context.
